Why the MORE Summit? Why me? Why Now?

Why the MORE Summit? Why me? Why Now?

We have been focused on marketing my MORE Summit. More Women. More Leadership on Friday 28th July 2017, at the Langham Hotel. This event will be the day of change for women in leadership.

People are asking me why would someone like me create a MORE Summit day? Why not leave it to others who have a lot more sway than me? Why underwrite this event myself?

My purpose is to empower others to be the best version of themselves as possible, I am passionate about what I do and achieve. I want to forge the way forward.. I have never been a follower. My job is to set the path for others to follow. I launched my first book in 2016, The Magic is in Believing it’s possible. It’s about my personal and professional journey. It’s all about mindset. Your thoughts and beliefs create your reality. I am working on my second book now, Leading from the mirror. What you do is what you see is what you get.

My leadership coaching clients come to me because:

  1. they are not being listened to at the meetings that count
  2. they have repeat communication challenges with peers, managers and others
  3. they feel tired, stuck, alone, disengaged and not happy
  4. they think that the organisation is getting worse – they don’t care, everything is swept under the carpet. Nothing is ever done
  5. they rarely get feedback
  6. the culture is bad – bullying, ageism, sexism and racism play out and again nothing appears to be done

We set about creating the necessary changes and tools at an individual level to bring about change at their respective levels. It takes time, conviction and accountability to see the change develop. I see the same patterns when I work with organisations showing them how to have a healthy performing culture.  Mindset, Communication and Culture are entwined. Mindset is paramount and must be addressed first. There are a number of generations including different cultural backgrounds are spanning the workplace and understanding how to communicate more effectively and respectfully is critical to engaging success.  Individuals must also play a part, How they show up every day, their own mindset creates engagement or not and how they ultimately contribute to the organisations success.

What I know Is this: New Zealand needs greater diversity in leadership and cultures that move way beyond gender bias. We need to take stock right now and address these issues.

I am so frustrated. Much money has been invested in assisting management teams to correct  behaviours. The challenge is that it  starts at this level. Your thoughts and beliefs create the reality. The Leadership Strategy of the State Services Commission highlights the need for “Investing in the development of our leaders who show talent for complex and challenging roles…” However the issue has always been how to achieve that development.

WHY? Because we are not doing what’s required with mindset shifts and tools in implement and disrupt the change. Quite simply organisations don’t know how to tackle it. Things are left as we are “busy” being reactive, tackling the smaller issues until one day, it happens. It falls apart. It’s status is critical and broken. There is no easy way out and yet it could have been addressed so much earlier to minimise the damage.

It’s not like any project that has a defined scope, timeframe and budget.  The first has to be a mindset shift.  Will it improve with the younger generations coming into leadership roles? The single issue they have is the feeling of lack of confidence which impacts on standing up and being strong enough to not tolerate the bad behaviour.

It is great to see a handful of organisations really grapple with this by starting to ask the hard questions to be able to implement good work to ensure the issues are being tackled.. That’s a pleasing start.

We need to disrupt the flow. That’s why I launched MORE. More Women More Leadership. In January this year, I set about putting the framework for this summit together. I am real, authentic and focused. I am super excited to have the support from my speakers and panelists so we can drive change together. I have also put together a personal brand workshop with the specific purpose of figuring out where you are at on the leadership spectrum and what you need to do.

The MORE summit is designed to not be another talk fest. It is about discussing the real issues openly and creating action plans and relevant strategies at an individual, organisation and community level and by tackling it here, collectively, we can start the shift.

So my wish for you is that if you are really passionate about creating the change that’s required, make sure you attend the MORE Summit day on the 28 th July. Take action. The early bird special finishes at midnight  on 31st  May 2017. That’s a saving of $355.

Rebecca set up Paradigm Shift in 2011 because in her corporate career she repeatedly observed leaders choosing to let chaos reign rather than work out strategies for effective change. Or put simply – poor leadership.

With a background in educational psychology, roles as CEO, sales executive, business coach, business owner and teacher, Rebecca uses her proven experience and insights along with her practical tool box to get results.

Rebecca observes human behaviour and associated patterns and enables leaders to become present to their patterns through her IP, Observational Intelligence (OI). Rebecca uses her 'cycle of interruption' approach to interrupt, innovate and lead from new paradigms creating collectively powerful leaders and culture-safe organisations.
