Why do we repeat the same patterns when we know they don’t serve us anymore?

I see business owners expressing disappointment with the results they are getting but do nothing about changing the situation.

There are always two questions I ask when addressing the issues of what is holding them back in business.

  1. What do I want?

When I ask this question people generally tell me that they want to be happy and have a good life. They associate being happy with getting a newer car, a bigger house, more time and more money. They operate with a “when I get there I will be happy” mindset but the reality is that “the getting there” is never going to work.

  1. What am I more committed to?

In every business or personal situation in business there are always two outcomes.

These are ones where you have an interest in the outcome and the second is where you are committed to having an outcome.

What ever or where ever you are most committed to is where the results are showing up. In every situation in a business or personal situation there are always two outcomes.

The first is interest and the second is commitment.

When you are committed to an outcome you are more likely to take this through to completion. When you are interested only you may do or you may not. You get to choose and it’s up to you.

I reckon that there are 3 aspects when it comes to understanding how our mindset works and choosing outcomes.

The first is being stagnant. We are in default mode. We resist change and we are sabotaging our own belief structures. We know we are doing it too. We are not achieving what we want but we continue to stay in this phase.

The second aspect is being aware. When we have a level of awareness and we see our destructive behaviours we can start to do something about it. We can identify why we do what we do and apply some logic to it.

The third aspect is choice. When we choose to shift our state either by gaining support or being able to share with others who can coach or mentor us, we can change to being empowered rather than disempowered. This is where the fundamental shift happens.

The freedom that comes with the choice to shift the patterns that no longer serve us is liberating. It’s like we have just woken up after a long sleep.

Having an empowered mindset with high levels of commitment, drive and refreshed energy means we are present, connected, committed and functioning at a much better level. If we know this then why don’t we or won’t we apply this practice every day?
