I believe in being the best you can be. My life purpose is to inspire people to do what it takes to enable them to be the best they can be. It’s no coincidence that when we “feel good”, things just work out that much better.
What does it actually mean to feel good? Fashion, or what we choose to wear, defines us but is it really? The clothes we wear, or rather the mindset we choose to have when we wear the clothes determines this. Research says that 7/10 women have a “ I hate my body ” feeling every week. I can guarantee that when these women have this feeling, it won’t matter what they wear because it won’t give the deep down security they are really looking for. Over the years I have spent money buying clothes to get an instant feeling of something new and euphoric .Feeling amazing and strutting my stuff and waiting for the comments. But let’s get real this is looking good from the outside in. It’s the validation from others we seek that reinforces that you look good. The challenge with this is that it does not last. We feel good for an instant moment in time. Then the same self doubt creeps in, the same lack of confidence in ourselves and the knot in the stomach. We also need to know that over our career we actually change how we represent ourselves. In my book, there is a chapter on my first CEO ” look”. It was very structured and very corporate. Now because I am always in front of people and I move a lot I need a look that moves with me.
What we really need to look at is feeling good from the inside out. When we have this, we can choose new clothes and wear them for the right reasons. It’s not about wearing what we think we should to meet the “right look” it is about really understanding who you are and what your own swagger is. I love my swagger. Swagger is owning your style, your essence, your path and your own brand. Swagger is someone who is on brand all the time regardless of being online or offline. Everything about you is real and authentic giving people access to the real you. You can find someone who has swagger because they stand out down the street. They can be short or tall, large or small – you see them pass by you and they have something about them that makes you want to stop, watch and desire. I call it your “SwagID” and yes, it is all yours. When you can own being you, then it all becomes easy. We need to replace looking good with feeling good. We need to gain perspective on what’s important for us as women and begin the process to being great. Life is too short trying to be someone else.
So how do you get your SwagID going? I am running my last Feel Good Be great workshop for 2016 in Wellington on Thursday 10th November. You can book your $ 40 ticket right here. Or come along to any one of the workshops in 2017 – full programme out shortly.
