It’s been a while since I have posted about my journey to 50. To be fair it’s been interesting. 50 is huge. It’s a half century. It’s half of 100. I have been at the cross roads for a while thinking about which direction I will take and need to take and sometimes these can be different paths. I think turning 50 brings with it a whole lot of reflection. I talk in my workshops about needing to first observe, then reflect before we can recalibrate. Often we go to other to look for advice on what we should do but if we are true to ourselves we do know the answers. They are there. It may be that we are not ready yet to see or take the path to getting what we want.
I listened to Sir William Gallagher speak the other day and what he said resonated with me a lot. He said : “You need to have your health to create your wealth and in order to protect your wealth you must first have your health”. Health has so many aspects: physical, emotional and spiritual and genetics.
Here’s where I am at – because I am so so driven I push myself to the limits and sometimes beyond both physically and emotionally it is difficult to slow down. My brain is filled to the brim with ways in which I can empower people and organisations. This has created over the years high levels of cortisol and adrenal fatigue. I can eat super healthy and exercise like a demon but not shift any weight. So taking my own work in play I have shifted my focus. I need to protect my health first and foremost. I am not about to slow down on my work front because that’s my job, my purpose, that’s what I am here to do.
But I have made some recalibrations. I am now meditating twice a day to music in my own way. It works for me. I have started the Blue Zone programme – a year long programme focused on 4 areas: Core Health, Gut Health, Emotional Health and Bringing it across into the family. The great thing about this programme is that I can fit it into my travel schedule. It’s easy to self manage. There are a team of experts who can help me and who understand the intensity of brain power and energy expended and what needs to be in the body to perform at optimum levels. They understand genetics and the role this plays for me. This coupled with exercise allows me to focus on all parts of me. One week in and so far so good. It’s a radical positive lifestyle change and it feels the right time to embark on it. I definitely feel calmer and my focus is intentional not scattered. I have a lot going on right now as we lead into my big premier event for the year, my MORE Summit so it’s all hands to deck. I have had two people comment on how I looked different but not sure what it is.
I do have a life long goal. I am going to live to 100. There’s no debate about that. That’s enough time for me to do what I need to achieve and see my two beautiful children grow into adults. I believe it’s core health. If you are clear and at peace at your core then you have the clarity to be who you want to be. This coupled with my mantra- never done it before, bound to be good at it will keep me trying new things.
